Sexual Abuse
ABOUT SEXUAL ABUSE
Whether in the past or the present, sexual abuse is a traumatic experience that can lead to a variety of distressing thoughts and feelings and may result in PTSD.
One in four women and one in ten men will experience sexual abuse in their lifetime.
The trauma from sexual abuse can lead to strong feelings of shame and defectiveness, resulting in poor self-esteem, negative self-talk, low mood, numbness, self-harm and substance abuse.
Difficulties with trust and intimacy and loss of interest in and pleasure from sex are also common responses.
