ABOUT TRAUMA

All of our clinicians take a trauma-informed approach to the assessment and treatment of mental health disorders. As such, not only are they passionate but also highly trained and experienced in the psychological treatment of trauma-related mental health disorders.

Trauma Counselling

Counselling for Trauma-related issues can vary greatly depending on the type of trauma you have experienced. At Breathe Psychology we take a whole body approach to the assessment and treatment of trauma and provide a range of therapeutic approaches to complement your recovery.

The most common type of talk therapy for trauma related mental health conditions is a form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) called Trauma-focused CBT, however other CBT-like approaches to trauma treatment such as Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) can be equally effective.

This can help if:

  • You have sudden and unprediactable fluctuations in mood
  • You feel like you are stuck in the past and unable to move forward
  • You feel jumpy or on edge
  • You have difficulty trusting people
  • You avoid reminders of the traumatic events
  • You have intrusive thoughts or nightmares about events from the past

Trauma presents differently in a lot of us, some include:

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Complex Trauma
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Anger Management
  • Substance Use and Dependence
  • Dissociative Disorders
