About Breathe Psychology
Providing trauma-informed care
We are trauma-informed – we are a team of professional, passionate and caring Psychologists who share a passion for Trauma-informed mental health care.
Trauma-informed mental health care means that all members of the Breathe team understand that trauma is a pervasive condition and endeavor to create an environment that fosters recovery and safety rather than one which may inadvertantly retraumatise or stigmatise an individual.
We are evidence-based – research demonstrates that an evidence-based approach to the assessment, formulation and treatment of mental health disorders, is essential for ensuring the best outcomes for people experiencing mental health challenges.
We use scientifically supported psychometric measures, keep up to date with the latest research and only use empirically supported treatment approaches (e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ‘CBT’, Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing ‘EMDR’, etc.).

These evidence-based approaches are ideal for working with relatively mild presentations such as low mood, low self-esteem, mild anxiety/social anxiety, work/life balance and adjustment to changing life circumstances (e.g. relationship break up or change in employment circumstances).
Notably, it is essential for the proper treatment of more severe presentations such as PTSD, complex and developmental trauma, dissociative symptoms, as well as chronic depression and more severe anxiety disorders.
We care – our thorough assessment allows us to assess the whole person in order to understand the ways in which past experiences have impacted on each individual’s ability to experience physical, psychological and emotional safety in their day-to-day lives. We understand that no two people are the same, and ensure that we tailor these evidence-based approaches to each person’s individual characteristics and needs.
